I hate playing catch-up but a much needed break from computer screens means that's what I'm doing right now. Brazil and Portugal played out a 0-0 draw in their group encounter with Brazil leaving a slight question mark over whether they will be the team or not this time round. Portugal showed their defensive qualities but after a rout against the North Koreans they failed to compliment that side of their game with another goal fest.
It's still Brazil for me but what would I know. Can't see Portugal doing it. With a captain who likes nothing more than looking at his big-screen reactions they are hard to take seriously.
The Ivory Coast headed home with a 3-0 win over the North Koreans who will go home to face the wrath of their leader. CIA files have been compiled on everyone of them and are being flown back to Langley to be stored away for future reference. Hardly a football giant, the Koreans can be proud of the goal they scored against the mighty Brazilians.
The Swiss failed to capitalise on their opening win against the Spanish and found themselves airport bound after a dismal 0-0 draw against the might of Honduras. That left Spain vying for top spot with Chile and they duly obliged with a 2-1 win. Some pundits say it's all about momentum and Spain after consecutive wins now have that.
For me though, it's all about not actually being there. Hey, I'm Irish! I'm supposed to be bitter and excel in the art of begrudging.
