The Dutch failed to exert themselves as they won their final 16 clash over Slovakia in the early kick off today. Goals from Robben and Sneijder were enough to see them through to the quarter finals and keep Dutch dreams alive in the competition.
Slovakia, who had previously sent World Champions Italy packing, failed to deliver a follow-up performance and despite bagging a late penalty which was dispatched by Vittek they find themselves airport bound but with their heads held high.
In the evening kick-off the Brazilian bandwagon steam rolled over Chile in a poetic display in all that is good about the beautiful game. First half goals from Juan and Fabiano had the Samba's in cruise control and they continued with that in the second half when Robinho added a third. Try as Chile may they were never in the game and the Brazilians once again gave the world a display which suggests they are the team to beat.
The Dutch now meet Brazil in the quarter finals. Though my heart will be with the Dutch I can't see based on tournament performances them beating the five-time champs. A match to the standard of the 1994 classic when the two teams also met in the quarter finals will be welcome but judging by today my prediction is Brazil will win by two clear goals.
Prediction : Brazil 3 Holland 1
